Shot in the fall of 2012, completed in the summer of 2013, and has been on the festival circuit in 2014. “Sophie” is a short film about family, lying, and that first moment in your life when you realize you “should grow up.” Liz set out to ensure her first directing project would relatable and bring joy to the audience – whether you are 8 years old or 108 years old.

The idea was first sparked by wanting to simplify adult problems by having a child portray them. The simple logic of a child can sometimes be the easiest solution to real world problems. From there, Liz worked with writer Mike Sellari to create a story.

“Sophie” is an independent short film created as a thesis film for Emerson College. In addition to the talented crew, Zandrak Productions and Magic House teamed up to provide camera rentals, additional equipment, and to make sure the film was shot from Sophie’s perspective.
